Asus UX21 11 6 inch Light and Thin Laptop Review and Price

Asus Laptop 11.6-inch Light and Thin UX21 the MacBook Air
Modeling after the Apple MacBook Air is a design feat few have taken on, with the Samsung Series 9 being one of the most recent examples. Now throw Asus into the mix. At Computex 2011, the Asus UX21 takes on more MacBook Air characteristics than any other ultraportable Ive seen thus far, and it packs quite a performance punch for a little guy.

The term "unibody" is a design term coined by Apple and one that Asus had no trouble using when it lifted the wraps off of the UX21. Indeed, its unibody frame is entirely engorged in aluminum metal, a much more polished version than the one found on the MacBook Air. The metal is hardened so that any worries about its durability should be put to the rest.Asus Laptop 11.6-inch Light and Thin UX21 the MacBook AirLike the Air 11-inch, the UX21 has a sloping design, which starts at 7mm in the back and tapers to 3mm once you reach the front bezel. It tips the scales at 2.2 pounds, which is exactly what the Air 11-inch weighs. The 11.6-inch widescreen and 1,366x768 resolution are also consistent with the Air. It uses a similar Chiclet-style keyboard and glass touchpad, though I found the two mouse buttons a bit too resistant for my tastes.

There are some subtle differences with regards to their feature sets. One of the UX21s two USB ports houses USB 3.0 technology (the Air 11-inch has two USB 2.0 ports). Instead of mini-DisplayPort, the UX21 has a mini-HDMI port. They both dont have built-in SD card readers, which would have been impressive had Asus pulled one off. Storage comes in SSD varieties: 64GB or 128GB. Asus also claims that with these drives, the UX21 can resume from sleep in two seconds.

The UX21 that was on display ran on an Intel Core i5-2557M (1.7GHz) processor, which means its a standard voltage variant and more powerful than the low-voltage ones found in the Samsung Series 9 and MacBook Airs. Asus also claims that it can scale as high as a Core i7, though it didnt say which one. With a standard volt processor, battery life becomes a concern. And given its size, a more powerful CPU, and the fact that the battery is completely sealed in means that were looking at no more than five hours.Asus Laptop 11.6-inch Light and Thin UX21 the MacBook AirTheres no word on pricing yet, but when I asked one of the PR reps if the Asus UX21 will be less expensive than the MacBook Air 11-inch, the answer was a resounding yes.[www.pcmag.com]

Asus Eee PC 900 8 9 inch Laptop Review

Asus Eee PC 900/8.9-inch Laptop Review
Asus original Eee PC, the 701, caused a huge stir in the laptop market, and rightly so. Before it materialised ultraportable laptops were well beyond the reach of most wallets; yet for just £230, the Eee PC offered a fully functional, ultraportable laptop.

Sure, it wasnt perfect. There was no optical drive, the 7in screen was on the small side and, it certainly couldnt lay claim to being as drop dead gorgeous, nor as powerful, as premium-priced ultraportables such as Sonys VGN-TZ31. But the fact you could buy more than four Eees for the price of a single Sony opened everyones eyes to just how cheap a laptop can be.

What the Eee lacks in good looks and alluring specifications, it more than makes up for with practicalities; and this new addition to the range, the Eee PC 900, addresses quite a few of the complaints levelled at the original.

The biggest change is that the tiny screen has been supplanted by an 8.9-inch panel, but while youd expect this to make the 900 physically larger than its predecessor, it doesnt. Instead, the big black speakers which framed the original Eees tiny screen have been moved to the underside of the laptop to make room.

Its a massive change for the better. Even with the specially tailored installation of Xandros Linux - a Windows XP version is also available, although well discuss the compromises later - the originals low 840 x 480 pixel resolution proved a little limiting for even the most basic browsing or document editing. Not only is the 900s screen physically larger, but its native resolution has risen to a far more manageable 1,024 x 600 pixels - enough to make surfing the web an enjoyable experience.

It provides good image quality too. Its no match for the likes of Sonys VGN-TZ31, but its amply and evenly bright across its nine inches, and colours are vibrant and punchy. More disappointing is the noticeable graininess to the image, but its not serious enough to impede day to day usage.

Room for manoeuvre
The rest of the Eees specification has also had a slight overhaul. Theres no sign of Intels Atom processors yet, so the same Intel Celeron 900MHz processor beavers away under the hood. But the complement of memory has risen from 512MB to 1GB, and the hard drive has also swelled from the original 2GB or 4GB options to a much more sensible 20GB. The storage is spread between two drives, however, with 4GB provided by onboard flash memory and another 16GB provided by a separate internal SSD drive.

The 4GB partition is still a touch on the small side for the operating system partition, but, while the 16GB secondary drive is tiny by todays standards, its a more than welcome improvement on one of the original Eees major drawbacks. Now theres ample room for documents and collections of music and video files without having to remember to bring the right flash drive or SD card whenever you leave the house.

Thanks to the solid state disks, the Eee feels fantastically snappy in use. Our benchmarks cant be run under Linux, but we managed to get some of them running under a Windows XP installation. The 2D graphics and media-encoding segments returned scores of 0.28 and 0.33 respectively. That may not be fast, but considering the Eees keen price, and the fact that intensive applications probably wont be its primary use, its not bad at all.

ASUS EEE PC 901 REVIEW THE NEWEST EEE KID OF ASUS

I had an opportunity to get my hands on the new Asus EEE PC 901, as they are presently for sale in Taiwan, although the US wont get them for relatively a while longer. It meant a bit of work (as well as the assistance of two additional tech writers) to seek out the computer district in the store for a lay up that had the EEE PC 901 in stock, but we lastly managed to catch some. Read on to checkout how well this premature release Taiwanese Asus EEE PC 901s worked out.

Design
The new EEE PC 901 looks a lot different, in a superior way, than the elder 900. The body has a much lustrous design, together with a very nice shimmering finish that is a lot of steps ahead of the older pearl finish established on the 701 and 900. The Asus logo front and center on the exhibit cover is gone, and replaced with an "EEE" branding, which in my estimation looks much nicer and more graceful. Build eminence is well again than ever, from the healthier paint finish to the stronger feeling display hinge. With each modification the Asus EEE PC starts feeling or looking less like a low-priced budget laptop and more like a premium portable laptop.

Performance
The Intel Atom processor is a very pleasant advancement, proving to augment performance by a feature or 2 over the elder Intel Celeron M. With the restricted software on hand we wedged with wPrime, but it gave an appealingly good indication of what presentation you might be expecting in other areas as well.

The exhibit doesnt emerge to have distorted from the older 900 and in all probability uses the precise same LCD panel. The keyboard stayed essentially the same from the older 900, with a hardly any minor font tweaks to a few of the buttons. The keys and action remained indistinguishable though, so dont anticipate anything above what you might have previously experienced on the 701 or 900. While I didnt contain my IR gun handy to get heat readings, the Intel Atom-equipped EEE 901 was just as hot as the 900.

The new-fangled EEE PC 901 offers a bigger battery, 6600 mAh over the 5800 mAh in the elder 900. While the amplified competence will always help with battery life, the newer power sipping Intel Atom processor in actual fact helps out.

Overall
This unit seems to be a cool chap in the price conscious EEE sector of notebooks. But then ably backed up by the ASUS innovations and the ATOM processor this notebook has lot to be desired about. A satisfied customer is what this unit will result in.

Pros
+ EEE Pc in all sense
+ Decent overall performance

Cons
-Heat sink could have been designed better.

ASUS N50V REVIEW

ASUS N50V – Gen- next in desktop replacement

ASUS N50VWe remember when Asus notebooks looked like they were planned by 5-year-olds with broken down crayons. The G2P gaming notebook was hideous. Fortunately the firms got its act in concert and begun to whip out gorgeous notebook after stunning notebook. Its most recent stunner is the N50V -- a desktop replacement intended to handle all approach of hi-def content even though pricing and make public dates are yet to be definite. Wed gamble it will be out before the closing stages of the year.

Design
Weve expressed it before, and well articulate it again -- the N50V is a nice-looking mechanism. The lid has fragile curved edges and a dark chocolate terminate that almost emerges purple in some lighting stipulations. Look intimately and youll see dozens of vertical spotted lines that are evocative of the scrolling green code from the Matrix movies.

Performance
The N50V is a Centrino 2 notebook with a concrete core design. It comes with a Core 2 Duo T9400 with a core rate of recurrence of 2.53GHz, plus 4GB of RAM, and an NVidia Geforce 9650M GT graphics accelerator card and hence its a very competent all-round machine.

The 320GB hard drive is reasonably middle-of-the-road by desktop PC norms, and even by notebook norms, Asus M70 managed to transport with a 1TB drive, but this should only have an effect on pirate’s unrelenting file-sharers. Most notable, however, is the addition of a Blu-ray drive. With this, youll be proficient to watch high-definition movies on the notebook, or on a large, exterior display.
Our mock-up of the N50V came with no operating system at all, but concluding accounts are predictable to ship with an edition of Windows Vista. The N50V has a fat, 15.4-inch exhibit, but were not influenced by it. First of all, its lustrous, so its needlessly reflective, and poorer still, its vertical viewing angle is extremely limited. We had to slope it to a 145-degree angle, as far as itll go, in order to acquire an even picture.

Overall
The N50V is a grand-looking, well-planted notebook. Its not ideal by any means, the storage space is restricted and the screen has issues, so the Asus M70 may be a superior bet. But if you desire a stylish desktop replacement with abundance of power and features, its worth a glance.

Pros
+ Grand design
+ Speedy CPU and loads of memory

Cons
- Only 3 USB ports;
- Lustrous terminate gets filthy without difficulty

ASUS UL30 REVIEW

The Asus UL30 is a CULV based notebook. It is thin and light, offers solid overall performance and comes at an affordable price. CULV based notebooks are known for offering better performance than netbooks; they are also cheaper than traditional ultraportables.

Specifications
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit)
RAM: up to 8GB
Storage: 500GB spinning at 5,400 rpm
Display: 13.3 inches

Build and Design
The machine weighs less than 1 inch in thickness and weighs 4 pounds. It is sleek and maintains a slim profile. Build quality is good; the design looks neat and elegant.

Keyboard and touchpad
The Asus UL30 has a full-size keyboard. The keys provide decent tactile feedback. You will be able to achieve your normal typing speed without much effort. The touchpad supports the two-finger scroll multitouch feature. It does not come with distinct left and right buttons, but that is unlikely to be an issue. Sensitivity is good, but buttons are a bit stiff.

Performance
The Asus UL30 has enough power inside its chassis to handle most tasks around the house. It is also good at multi-tasking. You can open more than 3 programs simultaneously. High-end gaming is still out of question.

Battery life
At around 10 hours, the battery life is pretty good for a machine of this size. Actually it lasts longer than most ultraportable notebooks in the market.

Ports and Slots
Port selection is satisfactory. There are 3 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, VGA, Ethernet, 5-in-1 card reader and 0.3 mp webcam. There is no optical drive.

Pros
Thin and light
Elegant design
Great battery life
Solid performance
Comfortable keyboard

Cons
Glossy display
Average graphics performance

EEE PC 1002H PLACED OFFICIALLY ON ASUS WEBSITE

The Asus has just hit over online with its new Eee PC 1002H on their own website. But only a month ago it was on air that Asus has confirmed to trim down the quantity of the Eee PC models in the market. So isn’t it bit contrasting?

This time also the screen size is 10.2 inches like some of the other Eee PC netbooks. As Asus vowed to lessen the number of Eee PC products, we were not prepared to get another one in the line so soon. But what is new in this?

Among the changes the most prominent is the redesigned chiclet keyboard. This feature might have an appeal to the touch typists. This keyboard was used in the 1000he earlier but with simple design. The processor, Atom N280, used in 1002H is an improved version of the same used in Eee PC 1002HA. So it may be a look-alike of 1002HA. It also has WiFi and Bluetooth.

It will come in white, pink and black.

Here are the specs of Eee PC 1002H

10.2 inches screen
Faster Atom N280 processor, CPU has a 1.66-GHz clock speed
160GBhard drive
5 hour battery
