BLACK FRIDAY CARRIED NO DEALS

I was preparing to write a long post about all the great deals that I found on Black Friday, but after waiting in line for 5 hours at my local Best Buy I can safly tell you that minus gas expensives I saved round about $300.

Best Buy did have a few reasonable deals but nothing to brag about, and unfortunately most the other stores carried nothing better. My advice though is to wait out the Holiday season, Ive been checking on deals for Laptops for the past 2 months and so far the best deals only save you a few bucks.

But I must commend Dell on having the best deal so far. If you head over to the Dell store you can save yourself up to $500 on select XPS systems. Not bad if you ask me, and couple that with Dells outstanding customer service I think its the best deal you will find for this holiday season.

THE WORLD OF DISC TECHNOLOGY – II

The main differences between Blu-ray Disc & HD-DVD had to do with their entire capacity (Blu-ray be able to do 25GB in a single layer and 50GB in a twofold layer while HD-DVD possibly will only do 15GB per layer) and their effortlessness of producing (HD-DVDs could be produced with negligible transforms at customary DVD factories while Blu-ray requisite a significantly larger refurbish). Lets be apparent for a second here: for data archival reasons Blu-ray does certainly just kick HD-DVD around, all over town. More capability is just unadorned king there. For doing high definition movies, though, the dissimilarity in aptitude isnt really a chief one. High definition movies, programmed appropriately, dont need much more breathing space than is presented on a garden multiplicity twofold layer DVD.

The HD-DVD and Blu-ray encounter wasnt determined by the public, it was determined mostly by back room diplomatist, though in equality, while HD-DVD was a better movie format for customers (not for its quality, but for its characteristics, lack of region coding, and uniformity), Blu-ray is better for computer practice. If were moving into the opportunity, the elevated capacity of Blu-ray does make it further ideal. The assorted formats actually cant work any other way.

35 HOUR BATTERY LIFE ON THE HORIZON

batteryindevelopment If there is one thing that has been the heart of almost every laptop and netbook user its the question as to how they can get more juice out of their systems. Yes you always have the option of carrying a few extra batteries (if you dont use a Mac) or go with an outrageously big nine or twelve cell battery.

But thanks to some researches in South Korea led by Professor Cho Jae-phil at Hanyang University a new type of lithium battery that in theory can last eight times longer than traditional batteries. So that means that your average 5 hour battery could last as long as 35 hours.

Now before you get all excited about paying some serious bucks for this one let me remind you that the technology is still in development and will take about 5 years before you see them popping up in laptops near you. But on the other hand you are welcome to drop by your local Best Buy and buy an extended battery on Black Friday.

HP PAVILION TX2500 REVIEW

HP Pavilion tx2500 – A worthy update courtesy AMD Puma

The HP Pavilion tx2500 is the much required modernize to the tx2000 Tablet PC. Thats right; the tx2500 has an efficient processor and graphics. HP to end with have answered our prayers and supplemented the new-fangled AMD Puma processor and ATI Radeon HD 3200 incorporated graphics into the identical great design. So lets see how much enhanced it performs.

Design
The tx2500 has a rock-hard framework and intend. The overall intend is the identical as the tx2000, with the lustrous "Echo" imprint finish which extends onto the silver keyboard. It has an extremely sleek exterior, but be cautious it is a fingerprint enticer. Weighing in around 4.5 pounds the tx2500 is ideal for students. It gets a bit heavy to clutch around in tablet mode all day, but its enormous for sitting on your desk and captivating notes and you can always surrogate in the weight saver if you dont necessitate the optical drive.

Performance
The tx2500 captures the new-fangled AMD "Puma" display place which contains mutually the modernized Turion X2 Ultra dual-core processor and the all fresh ATI Radeon HD 3200 incorporated graphics processor (IGP). The Radeon HD 3200 is a significant IGP for the reason that it is the 1st incorporated graphics elucidation that is authentically competent of playing 1080p video without skipping frames or playing many 3D video games with rational frame rates. While most tablets with incorporated graphics manufacture a 3DMark05 score of less than 1,000 the HD 3200 IGP is hypothetically capable of 2 or 3 times that level of presentation.

There is plethora of multimedia buttons for watching DVDs, listening to music or screening your photos. There is even a non-compulsory Web cam, which makes this tablet grand for chatting with friends over the Web, particularly with the efficiency that comes pimped in with the new-fangled Puma processor. It converts into tablet mode with effortlessness and when in tablet mode the speakers are still easy to get to, a definite additional benefit

Overall
Overall I am overwhelmed with the tx2500. The efficient AMD Puma processor and ATI Radeon HD 3200 graphics are a huge plus. Web pages deliver quicker and surfing the Web is a puff of air. Even though our tx2500 had a few issues with the incorporated graphics it still performed enhanced than the majority of tablets on the market now and we are conveying it back to HP to fasten it. College students and supplementary consumers should be pleased with all the features the tx2500 packs, particularly considering it exists for under $1,000.

Pros
+ Reasonably priced
+ Touch screen and vigorous digitizer
+ Amusement features
+ Rock-hard design
+ Enhanced GPU

Cons
- High heat production when system is stressed out

HP PAVILION TX2500Z REVIEW

This revise to the tx2000 owes its stronger recital to AMD’s new-fangled “Puma” platform, which consists of new-fangled processors and much enhanced incorporated graphics. Conversely, while the HP Pavilion tx2500z has enhanced in a few areas, the uninspiring flaunt hasn’t. And you’ll forfeit battery life for Puma’s presentation boost up.

Design
The tx2500z exercises the identical high-gloss glances as HP’s preceding tx2000 tablet and sports the “Echo” inlaid conclude, a faint grid outline that extends from the black cover to the silver keyboard deck and palm rest. Measuring 12.1 x 8.8 x 1.2-1.5 inches, the tx2500z sustains the identical build and appearance as its elder brother and weighs 5 pounds with its 8-cell battery. HP prolongs to employ its sole upturned nub design on its touchpad, which serves accurate cursor run. A split column of nubs on the right makes scrolling easier and fewer error-prone than predictable touchpad’s.

Performance
The 1st system we’ve weathered with AMD’s Puma platform, the tx2500z had honest scores on paper. With 4GB of RAM and a novel 2.2-GHz AMD Turion X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile processor, the tx2500z served a solid PCMark Vantage score of 2,298, which, while about 200 points lower than the standard for a thin-and-light, is still reputable. However, it’s PCMark05 score of 3,685 is more than 100 points advanced than the group average. In a side-by-side evaluation of day by day activities with the previous tx2000 (running 4GB of RAM, a 32-bit version of Vista Ultimate and a 2.3-GHz AMD Turion 64 X2) we didn’t spot any perceptible performance differences. Microsoft Word instigated on both systems in 7 seconds and both machines triggered multiple open programs just as effortlessly as ever witnessed.

Functioning in tablet mode on the tx2500z was a delight for the reason that the LCD is invalid of any quiver and is resolutely secured to the keyboard. The dual-mode touch screen/digitizer flaunt, similar to the tx2000, proffered precise input performance in both modes. The screen was receptive to touch, and double-clicking icons with our finger was effortless and necessitated only a squashy press.

Conclusion: With configurations beginning at $1,049, the Pavilion tx2500z is definitely much better in the graphics responsibility than its precursor, and AMD’s new-fangled Turion X2 Ultra processor caters abundance of pep. However, while the dual-mode touch screen zaps functionality, it prolongs to detract from the viewing superiority. We suggest the tx2500z for persons who want multimedia influence pooled with a downy Tablet familiarity.

Pros
+ Smooth tablet PC experience
+ Decent build quality

Cons
- Performance boost is very minimal

SONY VAIO FW139E H REVIEW

Sony VAIO FW139E/H – A heavy beauty on sale

Sony VAIO FW139E/HVAIO FW laptop was meant to grant up to 4 years of casual and profound computing. The GPU was the significant pronouncement maker; I required something devoted, and the market was deluged with probably defective NVidia GPUs. I lessened my choices down to the VAIO FW and HP dv5t. I finished up going with the VAIO FW for the reason that of the superior screen and quicker processor at my price range.

Design
Im overwhelmed with the on the whole build of the VAIO FW. Its boxed in Magnesium alloy, which provides it appear semi-metal and semi-plastic at the similar time. It is a extremely sturdy looking notebook; the screen hinge is ideal and stands brawny, rubber feet under the notebook keep it from moving, and I have not yet been proficient to make a scratch on it. Design wise, it is stylishly sound. It carries the customary VAIO gaze; the mold I reviewed is the Titanium Grey representation with black colored keys. It has a extremely specialized look.

Performance
The Sony VAIO FW139E/H is a 16.4" semi-desktop substitute laptop configured with an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400, which runs at 2.26GHz with a Front Side Bus velocity of 1066MHz, 3GB of DDR2-800 RAM, an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 devoted graphics accelerator card, and a 250GB HDD.

Now for the excitement part! The P8400 Core 2 Duo is outstanding quick in Vista; I have yet to understand a slowdown caused by the CPU. The bottlenecking constituent of this notebook is the hard drive, sprinting at the standard notebook HDD velocity of 5400 RPM. The relocate of a huge file via a 100Mbps network was moderately slow; this wasnt the entire notebook HDDs fault, though. The notebook is competent of 1000Mbps transfers, and the file restricted a large amount of subdirectories and files and deliberate transfer down in Windows. Boot up is quick, even when multiple startup submissions are in attendance.

This notebook is built well to grip heat. After gaming for about 30 minutes, the notebook was still cool. It doesnt get extremely scorching at all, and is in all probability one of the extremely good things about Sonys engineering. The battery life is fair-haired; I keep the notebook on full brightness while not charging, and it more often than not lasts about 2 hours. The notebook down clocks the processor when there is no peripheral power source to safeguard power.

Overall
This notebook is fine for the gentle power user who still fancies portability. Of course, my vision of portability in all probability differs from someone who finds 6.4lbs weighty. It is nothing like the huge VAIO AR, however. The VAIO FW is an FZ in size, and half-way sandwiched between an FZ and AR in power.

Pros
+ Display quality typical Vaio
+ Amazing speed & performance

Cons
- On the heavier side of the build

BEST LAPTOPS OF 2008

Its time to recap the best laptops of the year. So without further ado lets begin.

Sony Z Series: Topping the list is the Sony Z series. Not only does it carry Blu-Ray options it is also the first 13.3 inch notebook to offer 16:9 resolution which means it actually puts the Blu-Ray drive to work.

HP Pavilion DV5T: With an MSRP well below $600, the DV5T is one hot notebook that fails not to appeal to thrill. Couple that with its NVIDIA GeForce 9600M Gt graphics card, and $150 BD drive option whats not to like. Oh and did I mention it also has HDMI output not to mention HPs stellar finishing job on the case of this thing.

Sony FW Series: Blu-Ray drive, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 graphics card, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 processor, up to 8GB of DDR2 RAM, 500GB HDD, and a 16:9 aspect ratio make this an irresistible choice. And for those of you who are wondering, yes its still below the $1300 mark.

Apple Macbook / Pro: While one of the most expensive notebooks you will ever lay your eyes on the Macbook and its Pro has something going for it that most laptops dont. It can run Mac and Windows. Plus thanks to its new NVIDIA GPU and multi touch trackpad there are few notebooks that can rival the Macbook in performance and ultra sexiness.

Toshiba A305: Other than holding the award for sexiest 15 inch laptop of the year the Toshiba A305 shines in the performance area as well. 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo Processor, 3GB RAM, 320GB HDD, sleep and charge technology, Intel’s GMA 4500MHD graphics card. If you have an extra buck fifty to drop than you might consider upgrading to a nine cell battery (to replace the included six cell) and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 graphic card.

NVIDIA TO RELEASE ION LE

Graphics card maker Nvidia will soon release a light edition of their popular Ion chipset. The new version – Ion LE - will be slightly underpowered. It will also have a lower price. While the full edition of Ion chipsets will be able to run DirectX 10, the lighter edition of Ion will support only DirectX 9. Ion LE will still be able to decode 1080p video content.

The Ion chipsets are commonly paired with netbooks using the Windows Vista operating system and the Intel Atom processor. 2. Declutter your computer. Clean up your registry and remove old and unused files and programs.

3. Having a lot of programs on your startup list can make your computer slow. Remove unnecessary programs from the startup menu.

4. Solid-state-drives are costlier than drives having moving parts. But they are much faster.

5. Use a good Antivirus Program. Home users can use the powerful AVG antivirus program for free.

6. Encrypt your drive to ensure that the important documents stored on your laptop are safe. BitLocker and TrueCrypt are popular drive encryption programs.

FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILO Pi 3540 REVIEW

AMILO Pi 3540 – from the house of Fujitsu Siemens

FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILO Pi 3540
The most recent to adhere the panda team is Fujitsu Siemens. All right, so it’s Amilo Pi 3540 has completely jack crouch to do with pandas, but it is black and white, and thats high-quality sufficient for our agitated imaginations. You can purchase one of these fashionable 15.4-inch multimedia work panda shores now for a paltry £700.

Design
There are quite a few things we akin to about the Pi 3540s intend. It has front facing audio jacks, building it trouble-free to bond a set of headphones. The headphone port yet doubles as a digital S/PDIF jack so you can harvest a surround-sound indication to a set of well-matched exterior speakers. Theres also a front-facing memory card window, and a 1.3-megapixel webcam, with assortment mics on each side of it.

Performance
The Pi 3540 is a Centrino 2 notebook, so it assures strong, proficient presentation. £699 acquires you a reasonably freezing Intel Core 2 Duo 8400 CPU sprinting at 2.26GHz, and 4GB of 800MHz DDR RAM. Regardless of being a Centrino 2 notebook with a comparatively quick CPU, the Pi 3540 is a normal performer. It watched a meager 2,380 in PC Mark 2005, which is pretty lame bearing in mind the correspondingly priced Samsung Q210 racked up 5,184. 3D presentation isnt so hot any way. It gained 2,259 in 3DMark 2006 which, to its recognition, is a miniature bit enhanced than the Samsung.

Battery sprint life is pretty standard, too. It sustained 1 hour 30 minutes in our CPU-intensive Battery Eater examination, and 2 hours 35 minutes in the fewer concentrated reader examination. Thats pretty lame evaluated to the 3 hours 14 minutes and 5 hours 28 minutes accomplished by the Q210.

We have to provide crutches to Fujitsu Siemens for the Pi 3540s tremendously calm operation. You can scarcely hear the fixation when its sprinting, and thats not anything to do with the gimmicky quiet mode push button above the keyboard, which appears to serve completely no purpose.

Overall
The Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Pi 3540 is a comparatively average notebook with above-average glances. It doesnt do extremely well in any fastidious area, but it is appealingly reasonably priced, so for that it receives our admiration. However, if youre subsequent to a quicker, lighter, longer-lasting, albeit uglier Centrino 2 notebook, youll be enhanced off with the Samsung Q210.

Pros
+ Styling
+ Ample hard drive storage

Cons
- Standard battery life and presentation
- Only two USB ports provided.

ZEPTO NOX A15 REVIEW

NOX-Out punch by Zepto NOX A15

Zepto NOX A15Dont be concerned if you havent stumbled upon a brand Zepto -- most people havent. Its a huge outfit, though. This Danish notebook producer has developed since 2002 to be converted into the self-proclaimed principal local producer of notebook PCs in Europe, delivering machines to 19 countries. Its most recent attempt, the Nox A15, is ingredient of its recital range, and captures high-spec components and seems to die for. Prices initiate from around £932.

Design
The Nox A15 is an eye-catching animal. The complete thing has a stunning matte black terminate and cambered edges that formulate it evocative of the old black MacBook. The closure has a Zepto emblem printed in an off-white color, but its so minimalist, we essentially desire it to the large back-lit apple on the MacBook.

Performance
Unlike several producers, Zepto permits customers to constitute its notebooks before buying. As a consequence, there is a quite few ways you can squeeze the A15. Our test equipment came with an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 sprinting at 2.26GHz, plus 4GB of DDR2 800MHz memory. Nevertheless, for an additional £62 you can pace up to a 2.4GHz P8600 or for £157 more, a 2.53GHz P9500 monster with 6MB of L2 cache.

Zepto has selected an NVidia Geforce 9600M GT graphics accelerator adaptor for the Nox A15. This, youll be satisfied to hear, is rather powerful and wont reticent away from sporting the most recent games -- even though perhaps not at the uppermost resolutions. The A15 arrives with a 1,280x800-pixel panel as customary, but if you necessitate more display real estate, you can avail yourself a 1,680 x 1,050-pixel panel for £62.

An outcome of this elevated presentation, however, is lackluster battery sprint life. The Nox A15 sustained a measly 1 hour and 23 minutes in our Battery Eater Classic test -- but thats to be anticipated from a notebook of this breed. If you desire something with enhanced battery life, then youll require looking at a diverse class of notebook.

Conclusion
We akin to the Zepto Nox A15. Were huge fans of its not glossy black finish and filleted edges, and even superior fans of its presentation and customizability. If you fancy something a diminutive diverse to the Dells and Acers of this planet, then you could do far inferior.

Pros
+ Matte black framework;
+ Customizability.

Cons
- Keyboard not the best;
- Poor battery sprint life.

HP PROBOOK 4310S REVIEW

The HP ProBook 4310s is a 13-inch budget priced business notebook. It has more or less the same design as the ProBook 4510s and 4710s.

Review Unit Configuration
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T6570 Processor (2.1GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB)
Operating system: Microsoft Genuine Windows Vista Business (with option for Windows XP downgrade)
Display: 13.3-inch LED-backlit anti-glare HD display (1366 x 768)
Graphics: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD
Memory: 2GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM
Storage: 320GB 7200RPM HDD

Price as configured: $779

Build and Design
The HP ProBook notebooks are aimed at small and medium businesses. These laptops offer a good balance of features at an affordable price.

The ProBook 4310s has a square, industrial-looking exterior and recessed keyboard area. The ProBooks are made mostly of plastic unlike the Elitebooks which are made of magnesium and aluminum alloy.

The ProBook 4310s is fairly light at 4.4 pounds. But the use of thin and light plastics lends a cheap feel to the notebook. The base of the laptop and screen lid show flex. Also, the chassis isn’t strong enough to withstand multiple drops off a desk. It would have been nice if HP had used thicker plastics or magnesium alloy in the construction of 4310s. On the plus side there are removable panels on the bottom of the laptop so upgrading components isn’t very difficult.
The average build quality, however, doesn’t prevent the laptop from featuring HP 3D DriveGuard which provides protection to the hard drive in the event the laptop gets dropped. Other security features on the notebook include HP ProtectTools with drive encryption, Device Access Manager, HP Spare Key, HP Disk Sanitizer and File Sanitizer.

Screen and Speakers
The ProBook 4310s comes with a 13.3 inch anti-glare display with 16:9 aspect ratio. The display features 1366x768 pixels. The display is good with good color and contrast. Horizontal viewing angles are excellent but vertical viewing angles are average.

The speakers are placed above the keyboard so that the sound is directed towards the user. Still, speaker performance isn’t very good. They sound tinny and lack range and at higher volumes, the audio tends to sound distorted.

Keyboard and Touchpad
The 4310s has a full-size keyboard featuring a chiclet style. There is enough spacing between keys for comfortable typing. The layout of the keyboard is equally good.

The touchpad is very responsive. On the flip side, the touchpad buttons are a very stiff and require a deep press in order to register a click. Unlike other HP consumer notebooks, there is no dedicated touchpad disable button on 4310s.

Ports and Features
Port selection is good. There are USB 2.0 ports, optical drive, WiFi (802.11a/b/g/draft-n), Ethernet, Modem, and Bluetooth.

Performance
The HP ProBook 4310 is equipped with an Intel T6570 processor running at 2.1GHz and integrated intel graphics. HP also provides the option of discrete graphics (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 with 512 MB dedicated video memory) at an additional cost. The 320GB hard drive spins at 7200rpm, so applications load without much lag. The notebook has enough power to handle applications like MS Office and FireFox. You will also be able to do some basic video work. High end gaming is still out of question as the integrated graphics isn’t very powerful.

Heat and Noise
During normal use heat production is minimal. Noise levels are also reasonable. But put the machine under pressure, and you will not have to try too hard to hear noise generated by the exhaust fans.

Battery
The base configuration comes with a 4-cell 37WHr battery. A larger 8-cell 73WHr battery is also available. The 4-cell battery will provide up to 4 hours of up time.

Conclusion
A decent notebook offering satisfactory performance. The HP 4310s is stylish and offers a good balance of features at a reasonable price.

Pros:
Reasonably priced
Great keyboard
Attractive design

Cons:
Average build quality
Costly if you buy it custom configured
Bad touchpad buttons

HOW TO CLEAN A LAPTOP COMPUTER

Your laptop needs to be thoroughly cleaned at least once a year. The recommended cleaning procedure for laptops differs from model to model. So read your User’s Manual before you clean your laptop.

Cleaning the Exterior
You can clean the exterior of your laptop with a soft damp cloth. Do not use a scratchy or abrasive cloth for cleaning. Also avoid using harsh cleaning agents. Do not spray the cleaning solution directly onto the casing of the laptop. You need to spray it on to the cloth first and then wipe the casing thoroughly.

Cleaning the cooling vents
Use a bottle of compressed air to clean the cooling vents. Don’t spray hard. Use cotton swabs to hold fans in place while you clean them.

I/O PORTS:
You can wipe away large pieces of dirt that may have accumulated in the ports with cotton swabs. You can also blow compressed air on to the ports.

Cleaning the Display
Use a non-abrasive cotton cloth for cleaning the display. Do not use ammonia based cleaning solutions as they will leave a film. Do not spray the cleaning solution directly on to the display. Spray on the cloth first and then wipe the screen with the cloth.

Cleaning keyboard
Use compressed air or cotton swabs to remove the dirt build-up in and around the keys. With some laptop models you can remove the keys for cleaning. Read your user manual to see whether yours allow this. Be sure to put the keys back into their proper places after you are done cleaning them.

ACER ASPIRE 6920 REVIEW

Acer Aspire 6920 – Cool walk down the lane

The all innovative Gemstone Blue series laptops from Acer offer a cinematic knowledge with a 16-inch 16:9 ratio exhibit, built-in subwoofer, and touch-sensitive multimedia control panel. Going ahead of the multimedia familiarity, Acer also give this Gemstone laptop one of the most pioneering designs we have witnessed in years.

Design
Build excellence of the Acer Aspire 6920 is very concrete and held up quite healthy during our testing. Whether it was being tossed inside of a rucksack unevenly or passed around by the edge of the palm rest, it didnt formulate one squeak of noise. The plastics utilized throughout the laptop are high quality, and provide it a harsh feel which doesnt crook under a burly grip.

Performance
The Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 processor establishes in our assessment configuration isnt precisely the greatest processor on the market, but it was more than quick enough for your standard workload. Office efficiency applications and internet browsers were no setbacks for this computer. Even more intricate tasks such as compressing audio or video files in iTunes accomplished without much delay. Overall most consumers will have a hard time telling the dissimilarity between a top of the line processor and base budget sculpt during day to day work.

The 16:9 Acer Cine-Crystal LCD rates average compared to other laptops, having high-quality color and contrast, but deficient in a wide viewing range. On the balanced shape with screen brightness set to 60% and wireless enabled, the Acer Gemstone pulled off 4 hours and 6 minutes of battery sprint life with the 4400mAh battery.

Thermal presentation is better than average, where even beneath heavy stress, like in the center of benchmarking, the laptop is scarcely above room temperature in all of the significant areas. The palm rests were faintly above room temperature and the underneath was fairly cool as well.

Conclusion
The Acer Gemstone Blue string has one of the coolest designs we have witnessed in our office in quite an elongated time. The concentration to aspect is astounding, particularly with the screen cover where you comprehend the color isnt a solid blue, but as an alternative a smooth changeover to a lighter color towards centered Acer logo. Even the screen hinges werent unnoticed, with the chrome inflections and inner blue LED lighting when plugged in.

Pros
+ Rock-hard build quality
+ Elegant screen cover paint finish
+ Chrome and LED trimmed pieces all over
+ Operates with lap friendly temperatures
+ Vast battery life

Cons
- Keyboard flex under typing pressure
- Pitiable screen viewing angles
